A Closet Fit for an Athlete

For my first ever 7-year old client, his main focus was simplicity. His closet came with custom built cubbies on the floor that he loves, but never could get full use of since all his other stuff would get thrown on the floor of the closet in front of it.

Solution? A few bins and laundry baskets helped to get the large items off the ground and better use the space on the top shelf. Once the cubbies were in view again, we added some baskets to house any smaller items so they don’t get lost.

Hats also needed to be wrangled. We kept the over the door hanging system they had, but reduced clutter to only the hats he wears regularly. The rest were put in a bin at the top of the closet to swap out when needed.

Matching hangers and organizing his clothes by type completed the project. He might not keep his clothes quite as tidy as we left them, but we know the systems put in place will help him keep his most used items in view and easily accessible.

A Place for Every Special Thing

Recently, when I was asked to organize the belongings of a very particular 5-year old girl, I didn’t take that job lightly. If you’ve read the blog about the Flamingo Bathroom, then you’ll know this little girl loves to collect. And not only did we create space for her things to be kept and organized in the bathroom, we also got to tackle her bedroom.

Storage units with cubbies are perfect for kids like her because she can keep all the things she wants safe inside each box, but the visual clutter goes away for the rest of the family. She also has lots of stuffed animals, dolls and blankets that can get messy fast, but are easily contained in laundry baskets. Bonus, those can be repurposed for all kinds of items later on once the stuffed animal phase passes.

Lastly, I found the perfect little plastic dishes from Dollar Tree that we were able to scatter on her dresser, “makeup table” and nightstand so she always has a place to store whatever small items mean the most that day. This way they’re easily accessible, won’t get lost and look prettier than sitting in piles everywhere.

Enjoy this adorably pink room that now has a place for every special thing.
